CHOIR AUDITIONS
Colla Voce Singers
is Holding ALTO, TENOR AND BASS Auditions
Apply by Friday 20 December 2024.
Auditions primarily on Saturday 11 January 2025, with an alternative date on Tuesday 14 January 2025 from 6pm.
How we work:
Colla Voce Singers is a project-based choir: we perform four to five concerts a year, with rehearsals from 7–9pm on the five preceding Tuesdays. All our concert dates and the headline repertoire we’re performing is announced about a year in advance. Although singers do not need to take part in every concert, it is expected that singers in our regular pool will commit to at least two projects a year.
What we sing:
Our repertoire is wide, spanning from Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony to newly-commissioned works by exciting young composers. We are resident at St George’s RC Cathedral Southwark—where all our rehearsals take place, along with one or two “Musical Meditation” concerts a year—and St Gabriel’s and St Saviour’s in Pimlico, where we perform the majority of our other projects. We have an ongoing relationship with the Hampstead Collective, performing a major piece of repertoire accompanied by full orchestra once a year: previous concerts have included Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius, Handel’s Theodora, and Messiah.
Last season’s projects included Schütz Musikalische Exequien with basso continuo, Handel Ode for St Cecilia’s Day (with the Hampstead Collective, accompanied by baroque orchestra) and Brahms’s A German Requiem. Our annual “A Colla Voce Christmas” concert at St Gabriel’s Pimlico takes place this December. 2025 is the choir’s 20th Anniversary Year, with a year of special concerts planned, and due to be announced very soon.
Who we’re looking for:
Many of our singers were university choral scholars somewhere in England, and can be found singing professionally in various church choirs in London. We are a voluntary choir though: whatever your background you will be an experienced classical choral singer with a good voice, comfortable with getting to know new music quickly, and looking for a small, friendly, high-quality group to continue your performing life. We’re a very social bunch, and our rehearsal venue boasts an excellent pub close by, which we make good use of after singing!
There are currently vacancies in the alto, tenor and bass parts (to begin rehearsing from Tuesday 28 January 2025), so if this sounds like you, please get in touch for further information, and to arrange an audition.
If you’re not free on any of the dates given above, let us know and we may be able to hear you another time. Please email us with your choral singing experience to arrange an audition or for more information:
